From where are the books shipped?
Our online inventory is shared with our retail store on Markham Street. That is why some titles which you order may be out of stock when you place your order.

How do I get to the bookstore?
Click here for a MAP. We are one block west of Bathurst just south of Bloor Street in Mirvish Village. Exit at the Bathurst station on the Bloor subway line. There is parking in the area, just please park legally.

What's the connection to Honest Ed's?
Ed Mirvish is David Mirvish's father. He opened Honest Ed's bargain store at Markham and Bloor in 1946.

How do gift certificates work?
Gift certificates purchased on the website are sent via email and registered on the site for the addressee to use.

Can I use a gift certificate when I visit the store?
Online gift certificates are for online shopping. If you would like us to send a gift certificate for in-store shopping we will send out a paper gift certificate by mail.

How do I order a book to be sent as a gift?
Fill out the billing and shipping information carefully. If you want the receipt sent to you separately and if you want a card and gift wrap give us instructions in the special instructions field.

Do institutions receive an extra discount?
Yes. For orders over $500.00 we offer an extra 10% discount on most titles. Textbooks, short discount and some sale books do not receive an extra discount

Do you bill in other currencies?
Our prices are in Canadian dollars. When you order books by credit card your credit card company will bill you in your local currency, at their current rate of exchange.

What tax is charged?
5% GST is charged on purchases in Canada. 8% PST is charged on non-book items, such as stationary and calendars sold in Ontario.

Can I return books?
You may return books for credit providing they are received in good condition, post paid within 14 days of delivery.

What if the book is defective?
If the book is defective you can return it for credit. Sale books sometimes have remainder marks, or can be slightly hurt. We will ask you before shipping if we think the condition is questionable.

What if you send the wrong book?
If we send a book in error we will refund the purchase and return postage.

How long will it take to receive my order?
Delivery time depends on your location and whether the books you have ordered are in stock. Most orders are shipped within 24-48 hours.

How are shipping charges calculated?
The website calculates shipping cost for post in Canada and the United States by weight increments. 

International shipping charges are calculated independent of the website. We will contact you by email informing you of the cost.

Can I have my order shipped faster than Canada Post?
Yes. Make a note of your preference in the special instructions box on checkout. We will email you a firm quote before shipping.

Can I pick up my order in person?
Yes. Simply check off the 'Pick-up in store' option in the checkout. Your credit card will be billed and we will keep the book for you to pick up.

Are parcels insured?
Parcels to some countries are not insurable. We will ask you to confirm such shipments before they are sent.
